Pre-K registration underway at Liberty
Pre-K registration for the 2026-27 school year began March 2 at Liberty Central School District.
Eligible pre-kindergarten students must be residents of the district and turn 4 years old before Dec. 1, 2026.
All eligible applications received by March 31 will be included in a lottery, to be held April 10, if needed. Any applications filed after March 31, and those not selected in the lottery, will be added to a waitlist. All slots will be full day.
Pre-K registration is held at Liberty School District’s Registration Office, 115 Buckley St., Liberty. To make an appointment call Heather Austin at 845-292-5400, ext. 2331.
Families are asked to bring the following to their appointment, along with a completed pre-k registration packet:
- A copy of the parent/guardian’s photo ID
- The child’s birth certificate
- Proof of residency (such as a utility bill or rental lease)
- Immunization records, including proof of lead screen
- Copy of a recent physical exam (must include all school physical exam requirements; please check with doctor)
- The child’s health insurance card
- Custody papers, if applicable
Two emergency closure days remain; remote learning reminder issued
Because of the blizzard warning and state of emergency, the closure today, Feb. 23, did not count toward Liberty Central School District’s allotted emergency closure days. The district has two of our eight emergency closure days remaining.
If the district uses all of its emergency days, the district will transition to remote learning if weather or other situations require the buildings to be closed.
Liberty will communicate its intention to use remote learning days, if the potential situation arises. The LCSD remote learning plan is available on the website.

Results:
- Boys 4×200 relay of Joe Sarney, Dylan Romero, Colten Allen and Samuel Blandon took fourth place and set a school record.
- Boys 4×400 relay of Joe Sarney, Dylan Romero, Colten Allen and Alan Cruz took third overall also setting a school record
- Girls Sprint Medley Relay of Adriana Ponce Agredano, Audrey Krum, Quinn Santiago and Sheyla Anguisaca Llanos took sixth place overall
- Starriah Harris took eighth place overall in the 55m hurdles
- Sydania Foster set a school record and placed seventh overall in the 300m.
- Brooke Bull also set a school record and took first place in pole vault and will be going to states
- Also going to states is the girls 4×200 relay team of Victoria Henry, Starriah Harris, Brooke Bull, Sydania Foster, which set a school record and took first place. Alternates are Quinn Santiago and Audrey Krum.

HPAC to host the ‘Black Legacy Project Live’
Hurleyville Performing Arts Center will host “The Black Legacy Project Live,” a free musical celebration of Black History created by the nonprofit Music in Common.
The show will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at HPAC, at 32+ Main St., in Hurleyville. Concessions will be available.

All Liberty wrestlers place in boys Section 9 D2 Championships
Each member of the Liberty Redhawks boys wrestling team earned spots on the podium at the Section 9 D2 Championships last weekend. Liberty finished ninth in the team standings and officially closed out the season.
Misael Juarez Perez placed sixth at 144 pounds; Miguel Guzman placed fifth at 157 pounds; Tarek Benadim placed third and Shawn Bickham placed fourth, both at 190 pounds; and Elmer Son Vicente placed third at 215 pounds.
Liberty BOE to meet Feb. 24
The next Liberty Central School District Board of Education meeting will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, in the HS Media Center at 125 Buckley St. in Liberty. The board anticipates to enter into executive session (not open to the public) immediately. The regular portion of the meeting, open to the public, is expected to resume at 6 p.m. The agenda will be available on Monday, Feb. 23, at Board Docs.
LCSD investigates actions in social media post
Liberty Central School District has been made aware of a video social media post by a former employee of the district’s transportation partner, Rolling V, reporting that Liberty Central School students making derogatory comments toward each other.
The district does not condone this behavior and is investigating the incident, and it will be handled according to the LCSD Code of Conduct.
“We appreciate the diversity of our community and take our commitment to the Dignity for All Students Act seriously,” Superintendent Dr. Patrick Sullivan said. Students who feel they are being targeted or bullied can reach out to the DASA coordinator in their building or fill out a DASA complaint form and the district will investigate. Concerns from students, staff and community members may also be filed through the district’s Anonymous Alerts reporting system.

Two excel at challenge, earn books at LMS
Two sixth-grade students in Ms. Sarah Davis’ ELA WINN (What I Need Now) class were recognized for their exceptional achievement in a recent IXL challenge.
Dominique Banks and Estiven Baquedano both exceeded the challenge goal by correctly answering more than 200 IXL questions focusing on ELA text-based learning. Dominique accurately answered 274 questions, while Estiven correctly completed 255.
“Their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to learning truly set them apart,” Ms. Davis said.
As a reward for their hard work, both students earned the opportunity to use flex seating of their choice for the week and select a book from the school’s book vending machine, which was dedicated late last month.
Estiven said it was fun to use the book machine, a sentiment echoed by Dominique who stated: “The challenge was cool, and being able to use the book machine was amazing! It gave us encouraging words as we used our coin.”
The book vending machine helps promote literacy, rewards positive behavior, and hopes to inspire a love of reading among Liberty Middle School students.
IXL Leaderboards are friendly competitions built into IXL, a website used by Liberty Middle School, that can track progress on things such as total questions answered, number of skills mastered or proficient and time spent learning.
Teachers can customize what the competition is based on when they set it up to motivate students. Leaderboards show student or class rankings in real time, which can make learning feel like a game or a challenge to climb the ranks.
These may be individual or team/class-based competitions depending on what the teacher sets.
Students can check their current ranking via their IXL dashboard, which updates as they work. The dashboard also shows progress toward awards, goals, and other accomplishments.
“Congratulations to Dominique and Estiven on this well-deserved accomplishment!” Ms. Davis said. “We are incredibly proud of their efforts and continued growth.”
Liberty skier heading to states for third time
A Liberty High School junior will make his third appearance at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Skiing championships next week.
Hudson Danzilo will compete in the Giant Slalom on Monday, Feb. 23, and the Slalom on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Bristol Mountain in Canandaigua
Hudson joined the varsity ski team in seventh grade and has qualified for Section 9 Championships each year he competed.
“This fantastic athlete has competed in every race in Section 9 for the past five years, always determined to give his all for Liberty,” Coach Carpio Ramos said.
Hudson earned a spot on the Section 9 race team for the state championship for the first time as a freshman. In that two-day race event, Hudson was one of the only members of section 9’s boys team to complete all runs in icy conditions during the giant slalom and slalom races. He competed against athletes from throughout New York State at White Face Mountain in Lake Placid, New York.
Sophomore year brought more success for Hudson, again earning a spot on the Section 9 race team and competing in the state championship races at Gore Mountain. Both years, Hudson finished better than 50% of his opponents, earning an overall score of 30 out of 60 racers and 26 out of 60 racers. Last year, above and beyond racing for Liberty High School, Hudson joined a travel ski racing program and continues to compete all over New York state this season as well.
Now a junior, Hudson’s performance really took off this season. His best finishes were second, third, and third in this season’s slalom races and second, second, and third in this season’s giant slalom races. This earned Hudson second place in section 9 going into the Section 9 Championship races on Feb. 12 at Hunter Mountain, earning a silver medal for second place overall, just 2.6 seconds behind first place.
