Hikes teach LES students about nature
Lenny Miret from Catskill Mountainkeeper, through a partnership with Sullivan 180, recently led groups of Liberty Elementary students on wellness hikes on the walking trail behind the school. The Outdoor Exploration Opportunities program connects students with the natural world through hands-on adventures that build curiosity, confidence and care for the Catskills. Students learned more about nature, local flora and fauna as well as Leave No Trace principles and had a chance to try real-world skills such as fire-lighting, navigation and shelter building. The area will become a future nature trail and outdoor classrooms for LES next year.
