Liberty Middle School Title I Annual Meeting Overview

On Oct. 8, Liberty Middle School hosted its annual Title I meeting. As a Title I school, LMS receives federal funding to enhance student achievement and provide additional resources to support student success.

Student Support and Well-Being

Families learned about the collaborative work taking place through Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and the Leader in Me program.

School leaders highlighted efforts to strengthen student achievement through targeted academic support, social-emotional learning, family engagement and data-driven decision-making.

Assessments and Accountability

As part of the district’s Strategic Plan, now in its fifth and final year, the Office of Accountability continues working to close achievement gaps and improve outcomes for all students. Liberty Middle School is currently designated as an Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) school for Hispanic students and a Potential Targeted Support and Improvement (PTSI) school for students with disabilities.

Under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act, accountability designations are based on grades 3-8 English language arts and mathematics assessments, participation rates, chronic absenteeism and graduation rates.

Accountability designations include:

  • Recognition School: High-performing or improving school.
  • Local Support and Improvement (LSI): No underperforming student groups.
  • Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI): Additional support needed.
  • Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI): One or more low-performing student groups.
  • Potential Targeted Support and Improvement (PTSI): At risk of identification for support.
  • Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI): Among the state’s lowest-performing schools.

Academic Assessments and Learning Opportunities

Students participate in NWEA MAP Growth assessments and New York state assessments in English language arts, mathematics and science. For the 2026-27 school year, the district aims to increase the percentage of students in grades 5-8 performing at or above grade level in reading and mathematics by 5% from fall to spring.

Students have access to:

  • Enrichment and accelerated coursework
  • English language arts, mathematics, science, Spanish and Mandarin courses
  • Hands-on STEAM activities and science investigations
  • Civic education experiences
  • Capstone projects that promote critical thinking and problem-solving

Family Engagement

Families play an important role in student success and are encouraged to:

  • Stay informed through ParentSquare, email, phone calls and mailings
  • Attend school events and meetings
  • Communicate regularly with teachers and staff
  • Participate in discussions about their child’s progress and educational needs

Parents have the right to:
