Strategic Plan: Culture

LHS graduates throw their caps into the air

We conclude our look at the four pillars of Liberty Central School District’s Strategic Plan with “culture.”

The pillar reads: “By 2027, all policies, procedures and communication will encompass the key elements of the district’s mission and vision as evidenced by perception survey data.”

What does this mean?

It means that we want the public to view Liberty Central School District as we see Liberty Central School District, as outlined in our mission and vision.

Our Mission: “The mission of the Liberty Central School District is to empower each student to contribute and thrive in a diverse community by pursuing their potential.”

Our Vision: “Cultivating trust and courage to be innovative and to persevere.”

Why is this important?

Our mission and vision are the core of who we, as a district, are and who we want to become. It is important to ensure our community recognizes our goals for our students and the wider community. Tying back to coherence, if we aren’t on the same page, as a district and a community, we cannot effectively work together to make Liberty the best it can be.

How are we doing this?

By following our action plans in the pillar:

  • Communicate the mission and vision of the district with all stakeholders
    • Our mission and vision statements are included in all of our student handbooks, as well as several of our districtwide documents.A sign promoting Leader in Me at Liberty Elementary
    • We also communicate, via stories, social posts, photos and more, these statements in action, showing how Liberty students are learning to be citizens of the diverse local, regional and global community.
  • Empower students to take an active role in their education and community
    • Liberty encourages leadership and good citizenship through programs such as Leader in Me and community service projects. We are also working to institute student-led conferences that give our students a voice in their educational future.
  • Recognize and encompass the cultures and diversity of all stakeholders in district events, instruction and communication
    • We offer the chance for students to celebrate their diverse cultures through events such as the LMS Cross Cultural Celebration. They learn more about other cultures through programs such as Level Up Village. The Liberty Pride Coalition offers LGBTQIA+ students, staff and supporters an opportunity to share and to work toward an inclusive school community.A map displays items from the LMS cross cultural celebration
  • Communicate district policies and procedures to support student, staff and families
    • Each student and family is provided with a student handbook that outlines all of the policies and procedures of the district as well as expectations.
    • Every staff member receives a building-specific staff handbook that, like the student handbooks, outlines the LCSD policies, procedures and expectations. New staff members also take part in a mentoring program where these are items are further explained and discussed
  • Publicize the Liberty Social Emotional Learning program throughout the district and the community.
    • We offer to our students a variety of SEL programming throughout the year, from district-wide programs such as Leader In Me, to classroom specific wellness activities.
    • We share stories and photos of our events that celebrate our SEL programs via our website, social media channels and traditional media.

The culture we are cultivating here at Liberty is one of inclusion, diversity, social and emotional health, perseverance, innovation and potential for success. Our strategic plan, and particularly our culture pillar, helps us keep our focus on making Liberty a great place to learn and grow.
