Concussion Management and Awareness Act
The LCSD Athletic Program recognizes that concussions and head injuries are commonly reported in children and adolescents who participate in sports and recreational activities. Therefore, the district adopts the following guidelines to assist in the proper evaluation and management of head injuries.
A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury. Concussions occur when normal brain functioning is disrupted by a blow or jolt to the body or head. Recovery from a concussion will vary. Avoiding reinjury and overexertion until fully recovered are the cornerstones of proper concussion management.
Any student demonstrating signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a concussion while participating in interscholastic athletic activity will be removed from the game or activity, evaluated immediately, and will not return to play that day. The LCSD will notify the student’s parents or guardians and recommend appropriate monitoring.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)
Sudden Cardiac Arrest, or SCA, is defined as the abrupt and unexpected loss of heart function. SCA can be fatal if not treated within minutes, and even with treatment, death may occur. Immediate treatment is cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an automatic external defibrillator. All public schools must have a staff member trained in the use of CPR and AED in school and at all school athletic events.
New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Spectator Policy
The NYSPHSAA Spectator Policy requires all event attendees to remain positive and respectful toward officials, coaches, and student-athletes under the motto “Be Loud, Be Proud, and Be Positive.” School supervisors enforce these conduct standards using a flexible, three-tier response system—ranging from an initial warning and a personal conduct discussion to immediate ejection from the facility, which pauses the game if the spectator refuses to leave. Anyone removed from an event faces a minimum one-game suspension until they complete the required National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Parent Credential course and submit proof of completion to the athletic office.
