Voters approve capital project referendum

Liberty Central School District residents approved Tuesday, Sept. 18, the authorization for the district to use $250,000 from its capital reserve fund to complete work on the baseball and soccer fields located within the athletic fields behind Liberty High School.

The proposal passed in a 143 to 30 vote.

The district originally went to voters last year for $560,000 anticipated to fund a multi-pronged capital project that included much-needed major improvements to the district athletic fields. After gaining voter approval, the district then went out to bid for the project but the bids were higher than the amount approved by voters.

Polls were open from noon to 9 p.m.

The next steps in the process include a planning period and a State Education Department review. More information will be posted online and sent home to families as soon as it is available.
