Update on music classrooms and instrument cleaning

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you know the LMS music rooms have been closed since the beginning of the month due to a mold problem.  The district has been addressing the situation and the band and choral room are up and running.  We are expecting the orchestra room to open within the next few days.  Please refer to the information sent out by Andy Cameron, MS Principal for more specific information.  The purpose of this letter is share with you the cleaning process for the instruments.

All of our instruments will be professionally cleaned.  An ultra-sonic cleaning process is used to kill any mold spores.  Woodwind and string instruments are very sensitive to mold and it often damages the instrument to the point where cleaning it will not work.  If we have instruments that cannot be cleaned successfully we will work with the district and our insurance company to get them replaced.

I share your concern that most of our students have been without an instrument since June.  We know that progress really only comes from practice.  We are working expeditiously to move this process along.  We have an extensive inventory and the cleaning process will take time.  Unfortunately, there will be some students who will not have instruments until November.

We remain optimistic that our winter concert season will go on as scheduled.  However, we are also being realistic that we may need to modify or change it.  As we get closer to December I will make a recommendation to administration and you will be notified of any changes.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Timothy Hamblin, Director of Music
