Softball

Although there was  a steady, light rain throughout the night, and the temperature continue to drop, second place (OCIAA Div. 4) Liberty traveled to “The Rock” to play a home/away doubleheader with first place Chester. Game 1 with Chester as the home team started at 6. Game 2 with Liberty as the home team followed and we finished around 10:30 PM.

Game 1: Chester 17, Liberty 8

Chester had a strong start, leading 12-2 after three innings as they went on to defeat Liberty 17-8.  Liberty was once again, led by Kelsey Morgans who hit a homerun in the 1st inning to go along with a walk, single, 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Gabby Magie had 3 singles, a run scored and 2 RBI while Jerikah Fleischman went 3-4 with a RBI. Liberty’s OCIAA Div. IV record dropped to 5-2 (9-5 overall).

Game 2: Liberty 12, Chester 9

Liberty sent 13 batters to the plate in an 8-run 2nd inning to jump out to 10-1 lead and held on to beat Chester 12-9. Lily Alejandro had two doubles in the second inning to spur the Indian offense. Alejandro finished with 3 hits including  2 doubles, a run scored and 2 RBIs. Kelsey Morgans also had 3 hits including 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Katy Decker went 3-4 with 3 runs scored and a RBI. Liberty improved their record to 6-2 OCIAA Div. IV (10-5 overall).

Boys Spring Track

The Liberty Boys Spring Track team traveled to Jeffersonville to compete in the Donna Deppa Invitational. Although no team scores were recorded, several team members had great results.

Leading the way for the Indians was Ashton Barrett who won the long jump, triple jump and was second in the high jump. Miguel Campos-Castro won the 800. Kymanni Dennis took third in the shot put. Wayne Kratz was second in the 200. Rayshawn Reynolds took third in the high jump and 200. Dustyn Kratz was third in the javelin. Jake Lesczynski placed third in the pole vault.

The sprint medley relay of Miguel Campos, Gabe Desrochers, Rayshawn Reynolds and Wayne Kratz won their event. The 4 by 1 team of Kymanni Dennis, Kevin Raymond, Troy Willis and Lucas Carrion took second place. The 4 by 4 team of Kymanni Dennis, Miguel Campos, Wayne Kratz and Troy Willis took second.

Liberty lost to Port Jervis due to not having enough golfers in the match.
Corrine Hellerer qualified for the sectional tournament and will compete on Monday 5/20 at Apple Greens in Highland.

S. S. Seward 5 Liberty 2

Two days after Liberty’s big victory over Chester, Liberty was no-hit by S.S. Seward’s Kailey Stolowski Thursday afternoon. Katy Decker pitched a great game in the loss giving up just 5 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 7. Areli Vega and Kylie Bachman scored runs for Liberty. With the loss, Liberty’s record drops to 10-6 on the season.
