Liberty 3, Eldred 1
Liberty upset previously undefeated, and #1 ranked (NYS Class D) Eldred 3-1. The entire team contributed to the victory coming up with key hits and spectacular defense.
The bottom of the 1st inning proved to be a pivotal one as Liberty jumped out to a quick 2 run lead. With Grace Wormuth and Brooke Nichols both on base after being hit by a pitch, Yanira Wilson launched a huge 2-run double over the right fielder’s head. The Indians were able to add another run in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Grace beat out an infield single which allowed Quinn Allen to score, giving Liberty a 3-0 lead.
In what proved to be a very important inning defensively, Liberty incredibly withstood a rally by the Yellow Jackets in the top of the 6th. After Eldred loaded the bases with no outs on three straight singles, Liberty’s defense went to work with Eldred’s 3-4-5 due up. Yanira caught a foul pop behind the plate for the first out, and then Brooke Nichols ran down a fly ball in center for the second out although Eldred was able to tag up and score one run. Rebecca followed with a 3-pitch strikeout which ended the Eldred threat and preserved the Liberty lead.
Offensively, Yanira finished 1-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Grace Wormuth finished 1-3 with a run and an RBI while Quinn Allen finished the day 1-3 with a run scored.
In the circle, Rebecca pitched a 7 inning complete game giving up just 6 hits and 1 run while striking out 3.
Defensively, among many outstanding plays, sophomore Angelina Rodriguez snagged a hard fly ball in left field doubling off the Eldred runner at 2B.

O’Neill 10, Liberty 6
In tough weather conditions, Liberty battled hard but ultimately lost to Sectional-bound O’Neill. A 5-run top of the 6th inning proved to be the downfall for the Indians.
Liberty’s offense was on as they scored runs in four separate innings, but they could not overcome some defensive miscues in the rain. Rebecca Philips went 2-4 with a triple, single, and 3 runs scored. Brooke Nichols also had 2 hits and scored 3 runs while stealing 3 bases. Yanira Wilson had a big 2-run single to tie the game in the bottom of the third inning. Jessica Dworetsky also had an RBI single for the Indians. Quinn Allen and Aidan Whitehead also had singles for Liberty who outhit O’Neill 8 to 6 on the day.
Rebecca pitched seven innings once again giving up just 3 earned runs on 6 hits while striking out a season-high 10 batters.
