Late last night, Thursday, May 4, 2023, the Liberty Central School District received information about a non-specific threat that has been sent to schools nation-wide. The threat was posted on social media around the country and was reportedly seen posted in Sullivan County last night. The threat describes violence in a school but does not specifically name a school or school district. 

The threat has currently been deemed to be unfounded by police agencies around the country but is still being investigated by local law enforcement agencies as a precautionary measure. 

It is important to note that the Liberty Central School District has not received or been named in a threat; however, we want staff and parents to know the district is aware of this disturbing trend and is on heightened alert. As always, we are in close contact and continual collaboration with our law enforcement partners. Students, staff and community members are encouraged to tell a trusted adult if they see or hear anything concerning.
