On Friday, November 3, the Liberty Indians cross country team traveled to Bear Mountain to compete in the Section IX Class C sectionals. This meet also serves to qualify athletes to compete in the state meet. The top team and the next five runners from other schools advance to the state championship.
In the boys race, Senior Jordan Russo led the way for the Indians. Jordan was followed by Sophomore Nicholas Connal who ran his best race of the year. Sophomore Miguel Campos-Castro was only a few seconds behind. Rounding out the scoring for Liberty were Sophomores Gavn Werring and Francisco Miguel.
In the girls race Senior Daniela Mercado was down to her last chance to qualify for the state meet. Daniela responded with the best race of her career placing fifth overall and securing a spot in the state meet. She was the only OCL runner and the only Sullivan County runner to qualify in this race. Daniela ran down her final opponent in the last 400 meters. The state meet is Saturday, November 11 at Wayne Central Schools east of Rochester. Liberty Pride.
