As the steady increase in globalization continues, students in seventh and eighth grade are now taking an active role in learning what it means to be a self-directed, contributing member of his/her communities.
Openings are available for the WeConnect, a new 4-H Club at Liberty Middle School designed to help students discover new cultures, understand the importance of global citizenship* and learn how to become a global citizen that can help change the world.
*Global citizenship incorporates the following:
• Identification as a citizen of a global society
• Knowledge of and appreciation for all cultures, including one’s own
• Understanding of global interconnectedness and/or issues that affect our global world
• Responsibility to positively contribute to and care for our global society
WeConnect is a fun, learn-by-doing educational program for students in grades 7-8 that will meet every third Thursday of the month from 2:15-4 p.m. The first meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 20. Interested parents and students are welcome to attend, ask questions and learn more.
To sign up, fill out and return an interest form to the school’s main office by Friday, Oct. 14, contact Sullivan Cornell Cooperative Extension at 845-292-6180 or email@example.com or visit www.sullivancce.org.
Students will be given forms during class this week. Space is limited – membership is first come, first serve.
