Mascot survey available; forum planned

Dear Liberty family,

As you are aware, we will be changing our mascot following a mandate from the state Education Department banning the use of indigenous mascots, logos and imagery.

As the first step in our process making the change, we are seeking input as to what you think our next mascot should be. We encourage you to take the survey at Liberty Central School District’s Mascot Ideas Survey Link to let your voice be heard. All survey responses must be received by Feb. 17.

We will also hold a community forum at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, in the High School Auditorium. It will be a chance for students, faculty, staff and members of the public to ask questions, offer suggestions, and learn more about what the changes mean. Paper copies of the survey may also be filled out at the forum.

We are also looking for people who would be willing to serve on a committee that will be tasked with reviewing the surveys and narrowing down the choices to put before the public for further input. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please attend the forum. If you aren’t able to attend, please send your name and contact information (email and phone number), as well as your connection to the Liberty Central School District, to questions@libertyk12.org, with the subject of “Mascot Committee” or call 845-292-5400, ext. 2055, and leave a message with the same information.

We look forward to seeing you at the forum on Feb. 7.

Sincerely,

Dr. Patrick Sullivan

Superintendent of Schools
