Liberty welcomes new assistant superintendent

Liberty Central School District welcomes Augustine E. Tornatore, Ed.D. as our new Assistant Superintendent of Schools. His first day will be Monday, Nov. 27.

Dr. Tornatore currently works in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District as the Director of Social Studies K-12. He works closely with his team to update the K-12 curriculum to reflect New York State’s Social Studies Framework. In addition, he provides professional development on the Social Studies Framework Practices, inquires, enduring issues, strategies for struggling students, and questioning techniques. Previously, Gus was the Administrator for Alternative, Adult and Community Programs within the Baldwin Union Free School District. He served as the Principal of Hastings Academy, the district’s alternative high school, where he raised the graduation rate for the students attending the program. He also revamped the K-12 medical homebound and suspension programs, Continuing Education, Driver Education, SAT Prep., and Saturday Night Alive programs. Furthermore, he implemented the online learning program for the District.

Dr. Tornatore has earned a Doctorate of Education degree in Administration and Supervision from St. John’s University with High Honor designation (achieving a 4.0 GPA.) He has earned two Master of Science degrees in School Administration and Supervision and Secondary Education/English from Queens College. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University at Stony Brook in Economics, minoring in English and Business Management.

“I am excited to join the Liberty Central School District team where I look forward to partnering with students, staff and the community to provide an enriched and outstanding education for our students,” Dr. Tornatore said.
