Liberty Public Library to host events for elementary students

Liberty Public Library will host a series of events for children this month and next.

  • Fall Storytime will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 13 though Oct. 18, at the library at 189 N. Main St. in front of Liberty Elementary School. There will be stories, songs, flannel board games, dancing, crafts and other activities for toddlers and preschoolers.
  • The library will also offer a “Stuffed Animal Sleepaway Camp” with a kickoff event starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16. Prekindergarten through fourth grade students will be able to go to the library with their stuffed animal, make them a library and card and drop them off for the sleepaway camp. During the week, pictures of the stuffed animals will be shared on the library’s Facebook page, so their owners can see all they’ve been up to at camp. They can be picked up between regular library hours between Thursday, Sept. 21, and Saturday, Sept. 23.
  • The library’s bookworm clubs will also open for the year in October. The club for kindergarten through second grades will be offered Mondays or Tuesdays afterschool, 2:30 to 4 p.m., Oct. 16 through Nov. 13 or Oct. 17 to Nov. 14. The club for third and fourth graders will be offered Wednesdays or Thursdays afterschool, 2:30 to 4 p.m., Oct. 18 through Nov. 15 or Oct. 19 to Nov. 16.

All children will be picked up at LES and brought to the library by library staff. Kids will enjoy snacks, books, games and crafts and more.
Registration for each session must be made by calling 845-292-6070. Registration will begin Monday, Sept. 25. All calls received before that date will be asked to call back.

Once registered, a permission form will be sent home that must be returned to the child’s teacher indicating pickup preference and other information. Pickup options will include picking up the child at the library at 4 p.m.; having the child brought by staff to the LES Boys & Girls Club if already part of the Boys & Girls Club program; or take the late bus home from the Elementary School.
