From the Middle School Principal; Remote and in-person learning for 2020-21

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during these unprecedented times.  We continue to try to maintain a sense of normalcy for our return for the 2020-2021 school year, while keeping everyone’s safety in the forefront of our planning and preparation.

Although we sent communication that had stated we would send student schedules this week, we feel it is important to take an additional step to respond to the needs of our parents/guardians and students.  This has led us to re-evaluate whether parents will elect to send their children to school for in person instruction or remote instruction, when given the choice.  As of now, no decision has been made and we are soliciting you (parents/guardians) to see which plan you prefer.

Results of the recent LCSD Follow-Up School Community survey indicated that approximately 50 percent of our families prefer a virtual instructional model, and 50 percent want a model where their child will receive instruction in school.  The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the expectations for all options of instruction while providing directions of how to choose the option you think is best for your child. The form you will be asked to submit will gather student-specific information from parents/guardians to finalize our reopening opportunities.

  • If you choose remote learning, your child will be expected to attend their regularly scheduled classes remotely (from home) every day.  Remote instruction will be synchronous and follow the student period schedule of times and classes.  If full-remote instruction is requested, households will only be able to opt back into in-person learning on a quarterly basis starting on the first day of the next quarter after the request was submitted.
  • If you choose in-person learning, your child will attend school two (2) to five (5) days per week with in-person instruction at Liberty Middle School depending on capacity limitations.  If you choose in-person instruction, your child must abide by all health and safety requirements, including daily temperature checks.  All students must wear a mask (unless proper medical documentation is provided) and social distance while in school.  Students will be expected to follow all rules set forth by the school to ensure safety for all.
  • Regardless of in-person or remote learning, the academic expectations, daily attendance, and the student period schedule of times and classes will remain the same for all students.  More information about these expectations will accompany the student schedules when sent.

Please complete the LMS Parent/Guardian Choice form for your child/children indicating whether you want your child to participate in full remote instruction or full in-person instruction by Friday, August 14, 2020.  Please note that a form must be submitted for all children enrolled at each school building.

Thank you for your continued support.  If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Stay safe, and healthy.
