An update about this spring’s NYSESLATs

Dear Liberty familes,

The NYSESLAT is the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test, which is administered in the spring of every school year. This test assesses English proficiency in listening, speaking, and reading.

The NYS Education Department has determined that it will not be possible to administer this year’s assessments remotely and is allowing us more flexibility than it has in past years. This flexibility for the Spring 2021 tests includes:

  • The Speaking test will be administered April 19-June 9, with make-up tests to be given within the administration window.
  • The Listening/Reading/Writing testing may be administered from May 17-June 9, with make-up tests administered within the administration window.
  • The tests will be administered to students who are receiving hybrid instruction on the days that they ordinarily attend school in person.
  • Schools are not expected to bring students into the building for the tests if they are receiving entirely remote instruction. Our  TESOL teachers will be in touch with remote students and their families to opt in.

It is recommended that all students complete the NYSESLAT test in order for us to support their academic needs and plan for next school year.

Stay safe and healthy.

All the best,

Derek Adams, Principal, Liberty High School
Heather Cheh,  Principal, Liberty Middle School
