From the Elementary Principal: Remote and in-person learning for 2020-21

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during these unprecedented times. As new information is received from the governor and NYSED, we continually review and revise our plans in order to give you the best options for student learning in the safest and most productive school environment.

The recent results of the LCSD Follow-Up School Community Survey has prompted us to gather specific information from LCSD families about their preference for receiving instruction in the upcoming year. The survey indicated that approximately 50 percent of our families prefer a virtual instructional model, and 50 percent want a model where their child will receive instruction in school. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the expectations for remote and in person learning.

This letter also provides a link to a form called, LES Parent/Guardian Choice:  2020-21 Virtual or In-Person Instruction, along with directions for submitting the form so that I know the option you would most like for your child.

  • If you choose remote learning, your child will be expected to attend their regularly scheduled classes remotely (from home) every day. Remote instruction will be a combination of synchronous and asynchronous and your child will be assigned a teacher to provide scheduled lessons every day. If remote instruction is requested, households will only be able to opt back into in-person learning on a trimester basis starting on the first day of the next trimester after the request was submitted.
  • If you choose in-person learning, your child will attend school in person 2-5 days per week, as assigned and outlined in the reopening plan for Liberty Elementary School. On days when your child is out of school, they would be expected to participate remotely. If you choose in-person instruction, your child must abide by all health and safety requirements, including daily temperature checks. All students must wear a mask (unless proper medical documentation is provided) and social distance while in school.  Students will be expected to follow all rules set forth by the school to ensure safety for all.
  • Regardless of in-person or remote learning, the academic expectations, expectations for participation in lessons and activities, expectations for attendance and requirements to follow the class schedule will be the same for all students.

More information about these expectations will be provided to individual students when class schedules have been finalized.

Please respond by Friday, August 14, 2020 by visiting the LCSD Website and completing the LES Parent/Guardian Choice: 2020-21 Virtual or In-Person Instruction form let us know your instructional model preference for your elementary school child/children.

Please note that the form can be used to submit your preference for all children in your household who are enrolled at Liberty Elementary School, but preferences for students in the middle school and high school require a separate form.

Thank you for your continued support.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call the main office of Liberty Elementary School, 845-292-5400 extension 2030.

Stay safe and healthy.

All the Best,
Jacqueline S. Harris
