Liberty Elementary School briefly evacuated all building occupants on Thursday, May 28, when a fog-making machine that was being used during a morning assembly activated the fire alarm.
Fog machines and laser lights were being used during the assembly to teach students about concepts such as persistence of vision, energy conversion, momentum and inertia. At approximately 10:50 a.m., the fog machine was turned on, the fire alarm sounded, and students were immediately evacuated.
The Liberty Fire Department responded as soon as the alarm went off and district personnel notified the fire department that the fog machine had triggered the alarm.
Students remained outside the school about 15 minutes while district personnel checked the building. Once district personnel verified that the building was clear and safe, students returned to their classrooms.
