Electronic “threat” deemed unfounded

On Thursday, Nov. 14,  at approximately 2 p.m., students reported that a classmate used an electronic device during class to threaten harm to others.

The students immediately reported the incident to the teacher and an investigation by administration and Liberty Police followed.  Police, after interviewing the student, the student’s parents, and witnesses, determined the threat to be non-credible. Additionally,  police confirmed that the student has no access to weapons.

The student admitted making the threat but insisted it was a joke and there was no intent or desire to harm anyone. The student will still face disciplinary consequences as outlined in the district’s Code of Conduct.

The safety and security of our students and staff is paramount. Students acted quickly and staff responded appropriately, notifying police and administration immediately. Teachers also took time today to discuss the matter with their students.
