A staffing update from the high school
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:
I hope this letter finds you well. We have had a positive and smooth opening to our 2023-2024 school year! We spent a significant amount of the summer recruiting and hiring highly qualified professionals that are certified in their content areas. We succeeded in filling seven (7) out of eight (8) positions. Unfortunately, a late August situation resulted in an unfilled science teacher position. This position was previously filled by an earth science teacher. After using many recruitment strategies, we were not able to find an earth science teacher. We then shifted to hiring a biology (living environment) teacher due to more available certified teachers. With this, we shifted our class offerings to close some of our earth science sections and open more environmental science sections. Felyluz Laguio has changed from our shared science teacher with the middle school, to being in the high school full time. She also took on an additional section of earth science so that we could close less sections with our shifts.
Students who pursue an advanced regents diploma need two (2) science regents exams (and three (3) math regents exams). All students need three (3) science credits, and one (1) regents exams (usually the living environment regents). For more detailed information, please reach out to your child’s school counselor and/or review the New York State Diploma Requirements Applicable to All Students Enrolled in Grades 9-12.
Please let me or your child’s school counselor know if you have any questions.
All the best,
Derek Adams, Principal
