New York State requires a physical exam prior to the a student practicing or playing a sport.
These exams are free of charge if performed in school by the district physician. Exams may also be
made by a private doctor at the family's expense. If a student has had an exam during the year,
another exam is not necessary before the next sports season. The athlete must complete a "yellow
card" to update his health record. Athletes who are injured will be asked for a doctor's note to
"clear" them to resume practice and play.
