You Need To Be The Teacher At Home
The hard part is that when students are practicing at home, Mr. S. can't be there to tell you if you are playing correctly or not and many times the parent/guardian can't tell either.  Therefore, the student has to become the "teacher" at home and listen very carefully to what they are practicing being sure that what they see on the page is what they hear being played on their instrument.  Each student has to use his/her critical thinking and problem solving skills when practicing to insure that they are practicing the exercises and songs correctly.
