Handout for High School Physical Education
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
SECONDARY PHYSICAL EDUCATION (8-12)
LCHS 2003-2004
Students are required to attend and ACTIVELY participate in Physical Education. The enclosed rubric explains how you get your grade. A total of 5 points per day are earned and we meet 20 times each marking period. Your physical education grade is averaged into your overall average. If, for any reason, you do not participate, you do not earn your 5 points for the day. Absences for illness can be made up. Absences during the school day for any reason other than athletics must be made up. As of September 2003, Physical Education teachers do not have to allow make-ups for days when you just did not feel like changing for class Seniors must be constantly aware of their grade. You must pass physical education every year to graduate.
To make up a class: During your physical education class, get your tracker signed for the date and period you want to make up. Show this signed tracker to your study hall teacher when you make up. Tell your physical education teacher you are there for a make up.
EXEMPTIONS FROM PARTICIPATION:

COMPETENCIES AND PROFICIENCIES
During grades 10, 11 and 12, you will be assessed as being competent or proficient in the activities you engage in. Therefore it is very important you learn the skills of the activities we do in class beginning in 8th grade. By 12th grade, you must demonstrate a general mastery and understanding of the skill, strategy and knowledge of safety of the activity.
Rating methods: Performance of the skill as compared to a state issued CD-ROM. In addition, teachers can still use other rating methods, such as peer reviews, written quizzes, and other skill tests. All IEP and 504 mandates are followed.
