Meet Your Teacher
My name is Jane Tobin Jacobs. I grew up in New York City and went to City College graduating with honors in Art. I had my first one person show on graduation at the Gallamaufry Gallery.
My husband Neal, teaches math in Monticello. We moved up here soon after our son Noah was born. Our daughter Sula was born in Sullivan County. Both went to school in Monticello.
I went to New Paltz to earn certification to teach art , and then earned an M.A. there in studio art, my specialty area being clay, both sculpture and pottery.
I have been teaching in Liberty for twenty years, first in the Elementary School , then the Middle School. I am active in school and am on the following school committees: Curriculum, Professional Development, and Mentoring. With the Liberty Faculty Association I am on the Social and the Sabbatical committees. I am Director of Art, and advisor for the Junior Sullivan County Inter-Academic League Team and I supervise the after school Art Club.
Professionally, I have had Shows of my Art in galleries in Manhattan, in and around SoHo , in Sullivan County and in Westchester.
I have been awarded the section 7 (which encompasses Westchester to Albany) Art Teacher of the Year award as well as a Charter membership in Teaching and Learning by the Board of Regents. I have presented my lessons in New York State Art Teachers Association Conferences. I also have worked with BOCES in creating county wide conferences.
Outside of school I have represented Sullivan County for the New York State Art Teachers Association, and am a member of the Arts organization in Sullivan County. My hobbies are art, kayaking, hiking, rowing, gardening, and various other creative activities.
