Welcome to Liberty Elementary School!Children at LES are provided with a safe, caring learning environment in order to reach their fullest potential. To accomplish this, our educators are committed to providing instruction that is engaging, relevant and meets the varied learning styles of their students. Teachers develop creative and innovative learning opportunities that are differentiated for meaningful study, thus providing all students with activities designed to challenge and extend their thinking based upon their level of need. Our curriculum is diverse and rich. The heart of the Liberty Elementary School program is our language arts curriculum. As students need to use multiple strategies to become proficient readers, we employ the best practices of current research in literacy to provide our students with a balanced literacy program. Phonological strategies as well as vocabulary study are used to develop and expand reading skills. Students write on a daily basis with a particular emphasis on expository writing. Whenever possible, the other core subject areas of math, social studies and science are taught through the use of literature. In addition, our students are exposed to a variety of special subject areas including computer technology, physical education, musical instruction (both vocal and instrumental), library/media studies and art. Our character education program is embedded in the use of a positive behavior support system that includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student social behaviors to create positive school environments. To this end, our four district-wide expectations (‘Be Respectful’, ‘Be Responsible’, ‘Be There, Be Ready’ & ‘Follow Directions’) are taught, practiced and modeled in all areas of school life. By focusing on positive behavior, we create an environment where teachers can teach and students can learn, thus improving the capacity for academic achievement. Mirroring the district’s mission statement of inspiring “…all students to pursue their dreams and to contribute and thrive in a diverse community”, our program theme this year is “Making the Impossible, Possible,” which is symbolized by a dream catcher. Our students come to us with dreams of what they want to do and who they want to become. It is our challenge to keep those dreams alive and provide them with the skills and knowledge to show them that their dreams are attainable. We look forward to accepting this challenge by providing the very best educational experience for our students. Finally, strong parental and community support enhance the quality of education at LES. We invite you to visit our school often. Please come meet us, talk to us, and volunteer your time and energy. Join the PTA! We know that your involvement, combined with the efforts of our outstanding faculty, will make this school year a rich and rewarding one for your child. “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” --Walt Disney |
