I. General Classroom Rules
Each student has the right to learn and be successful.
Each student and the teacher have the right to be respected and the responsibility to respect others.
It is the responsibility of the teacher and the students to provide an atmosphere where learning can take place.
Each student has the responsibility to do the best possible job at all times.
It is the teacher's responsibility to help the student do their best.
It is the teacher's responsibility to treat all students equally and fairly.
Each student has the right to ask and have answered any questions related to the material being covered.
Students who are asking or answering questions will raise their hands.
No food or drinks are allowed in the classroom or computer lab.
II. Attendance
Students who are not in class cannot get the most out of the class. Each student is expected to be in class, in his or her seat and ready to learn when the bell rings. Three lates will be counted as one cut. This is part of class participation.
III. What to Bring to Class
The student will bring their notebook with blank paper and a pen or pencil to class each day. The student will also bring any other equipment as requested by the teacher. The student also will have any assigned homework ready to be checked or collected. These will be ready by the time attendance has been taken. This is part of class participation.
IV. Notebooks and Notes
The student will have a separate, loose-leaf notebook for math class. It will contain sheets of blank, standard-size, lined paper for notes and other work. The notebook should always be kept up-to-date and ready to be checked at any time. This is part of class participation.
The notebook will be divided into the following sections:
A. Notes
All explanations and examples as presented in class will be included in the notes. The date the notes are given will be placed in left-hand margin. Only notes directly pertaining to the subject will be found in the notes section. When a student is absent, they must copy the notes from another student. All notes will be legible and easy to read by the students and the teacher.
B. Programs and Homework
All completed programs and homework assignments will be included in this section in the order they are assigned. Each program and homework will have the proper heading.
C. Quizzes and Tests
All quizzes will be included in this section in the order they were given.
V. Programs
The most important part of a computer programming class is programming. Much of learning to program is practice and applying old ideas in new situations. Programs will be assigned at certain intervals and will be collected whether complete or not on a specified day. Programs will be marked with a letter grade. General and specific program requirements will be made clear. Programs that are turned in on time will receive a maximum grade of A+. Programs that are late will be marked down an entire letter grade with a maximum grade of B+. Programs may be resubmitted as the teacher specifies.
VI. Homework
Homework may be assigned every night. The student is expected to complete all parts of each assignment. The student should have the homework paper ready to be checked at the start of the period. Each homework will have the following heading:
HW Description Student name
Assignment Period
Date
The teacher will check the homework for completeness and may collect it to correct it. The teacher may review all problems or only specific ones. The student should be ready to ask and answer questions on the homework. This is part of class participation.
VII. Quizzes and Tests
Quizzes can be given at any time and may or may not be announced. They are meant to take from 15 to 30 minutes to complete. The student may or may not be asked to make up a quiz depending on the number of quizzes they have missed.
A cumulative test will be given at the end of each of the first three quarters. It will count as four quizzes and MUST be made up if missed.
VIII. Missed Work and Make Up
The student will have as many days to turn in missed assignments as the number of days they were absent. Exceptions will be made for lengthy absences. The student or parent should arrange to get the work ahead of time when they know and absence will occur. The teacher also will provide work during a lengthy absence when it is requested.
IX. Plagiarism and Cheating
Students are expected to do their own work at all times. Copying someone else's work at presenting it as you own is plagiarism. Allowing someone to copy your work is cheating. The minimum penalty for either of these actions will be a 0 on the work in question. This 0 cannot be changed in any way. Parents and administration will be notified.
X. Grading
A student's grade will be a combination of the following:
A. Quizzes and Tests 50%
B. Programs and HW 30%
C. Notebook 10%
D. Class participation 10%
If a student takes all the quizzes during a marking period, the lowest grade will be dropped. The quarterly test will count as four quizzes and none of these grades can be dropped. The mean of the quizzes will be calculated and will account for 50% of the grade.
Programs and HW assignments will count equally. One assignment will be dropped for the marking period. The mean of the programs and HW assignments will be calculated and will account for 30% of the grade.
At least one notebook check will be conducted near the end of the marking period. The grade will be a letter grade. Other "spot checks" may be conducted. This will account for 10% of the grade.
At the end of the marking period a class participation grade will be assigned. A student who is not participating will be warned. This will account for 10% of the grade.
