About Your Teacher

Welcome to Mrs. Licis' web page!

I am an English teacher who loves literature. My favorite literary period is the Eighteenth Century.  I have presented papers on Jane Austen, and other authors of this time period, and belong to the South Central Society for Eighteenth Century Literature.

I was born in Dearborn, Michigan, and now reside in Sullivan County, New York.   I am a dual-certified teacher with a Master's degree in English, and graduated from the State University of New York at New Paltz.  I also earned my Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz, as well as an Associate of Arts and Behavioral Science degree from Dutchess Community College.

This is my second year at Liberty High School.  I currently teach English 10R, and English AIS.  I am looking forward to a successful, productive, and rewarding year with all of my students.  I love the supportive environment here at Liberty High School and feel very fortunate to be working with such a dedicated and talented group of administrators, faculty, students, and parents.

My hobbies include writing, ballet, drama, and guitar.  I am currently in the process of publishing two books that I have written for children.  I also write poetry.  My favorite movie is "Somewhere In Time" starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.

Mission Statement:
My primary objective is to assist students in becoming fluent as writers, speakers, listeners, and life-
long readers.  I believe that students can gain proficiency in developing his or her own voice through several techniques of writing. I also believe that in order to become successful in life, one must be literate.  Literacy can only be achieved through extensive reading and writing throughout a student's educational journey.  The key is to make reading and writing a pleasure, not a task!
