Prom and Stress
By: Nicole Ross
It's your senior year and you're preparing for your future. Whether its college or you're jumping into work, you're preparing and getting ready for the real world. But there is one last thing to do before you run off into the world: prom night. You have been dreaming about the perfect prom for the past four years of your high school career and finally it's your time to shine! Both girls and boys feel the stress during this time of year, especially us girls.
As a senior female, it has been very stressful preparing for the big day. When it comes down to choosing a dress, limousine and a date, everything has to be perfect and reasonably priced. With today's economy, some people in our school can't afford all of the wants and needs to make their prom day as special and memorable as it can be. Our school is trying to help make everybody's prom a special one. By assisting girls with dresses, placePlaceNameLiberty PlaceTypeHigh School is making everyone's prom dreams possible. No matter how stressed or unhappy you may be up until prom, it is a day that will always be remembered by every senior for years to come.
In Honor of Earth day
By: Arianna Burd
In honor of Earth Day, which was April 23, a Go Green article is in order. First of all what is “Going Green?” Going Green means being as Earth Friendly as possible, taking care of the environment that does so much for us. It's actually surprisingly easy to make a few simple changes in your everyday life to contribute to making the earth a cleaner healthier place for all living things. Not everyone needs to have a bicycle powered toaster or take one minute showers, but is the little things that are feasible for all people to do that will really make a major difference. First of all the Liberty High School Interact Club with help from the LHS custodial staff have recently set up a can and plastic bottle recycling can in the cafeteria, located next to the Snapple machine. If everyone placed their cans and plastic bottles in that container those cans and bottles would be back on the shelves in approximately eighty days instead of sitting in a landfill somewhere. The more recycling the less new plastic bottles and cans that will have to be produced; reducing greatly the amount of pollution, even just LHS alone produces. Recycling bins will also be placed in class rooms in the next week or two which will be for cans, plastic bottles, as well as paper. At home everyone can shut off lights when they leave a room which will not only protect the environment but save money on your electric bill as well. Unplugging charges that are not being used to charge anything as well as other appliances is also a help as items such as cell phone and iPod chargers as well as coffee pots and hair dryers all use small amounts of energy even when they are not charging anything or turned on. These small amounts of energy really do add up believe it or not. Recycling at home if possible also has an incredible impact on the environment. If you live in the placePlaceTypevillage of PlaceNameLiberty the village garbage service will pick up your recycling as long as you separate it and place it in the blue bins. People who do not live in the village can also bring recycling to the dump themselves or do like me and bring your recycling to a friend who lives in the village! Also, use common sense be aware of how much paper you are using, shut off the water when you are brushing your teeth, don't take hour showers, and most definitely don't litter. Buying products without excess packaging is also a great way to go. If possible the next time you buy computer printer paper buy already recycled paper it is actually about five to eight dollars cheaper than regular paper. At home using reusable plates or if need be paper plates over Styrofoam is always the best way to go as Styrofoam is not biodegradable, meaning it will sit in the land fill for ever! Let's make every day Earth Day!
Boys Track
By: Guadalupe Perez
On April 24th, the Liberty Boys Spring Track team travelled to Sullivan West and had an electrifying win over the bull dogs. placeCityLiberty won by 1 point with a score of 71 points overall. The boys are seeing their biggest team in many years and it full of talent. placeCityLiberty track has been showing amazing progress this year and this win just showed us how good of a team they are. Everybody was necessary in this meet and everybody contributed. The 4x4 team of Ryan Harnish, Scott Caplin, Tim Burgio and Saeed Robinson had an impressing and heart-stopping race. Saeed finished the race by winning even though he was at a disadvantage of over 75 meters! Another exciting event was the high jump. Malcolm Strother was just a couple of inches away from beating a school record. Although he did not accomplish this, apparently because “a bug flew into his eye in the middle of the jump” he still did an amazing job jumping 6 feet. Good luck to the track team in their upcoming races and go placeCityLiberty!
Data Match
By: Sabrina Mastrogiovanni
Liberty High was a-buzzing when news of the arrival of the long anticipated `Data Match' compatibility survey circulated. During the last two weeks of April, the freshmen class dutifully handed out Data Match sheets with a determination no mortal being could deter. Approximately 150 copies were handed out and it was almost an equal number between girls and boys who filled out the 30 questions survey. It was completely free to fill out and a grand total of two placeStateWashington singles to receive your results.
Data Match sheets were handed out during lunch periods and were really simple to fill out. All you needed was legible handwriting and a comprehension of your inner self. Students were presented with 30 multiple choice questions ranging from their ideal flavor of ice cream how many screen names they profess to own. After a reasonable amount of surveys were completed, the surveys were sent to the Data Match Company where they were entered into a computer and the magic began. The results were then sent back in a super secret box slapped with the Data Match logo, and the distribution began.
Sophomore Jill Lieberman said that Data Match was “Totally awesome.” She also mentioned that “It's really great to have that [Data Match] available at our school.”
After all sales, the freshmen expect to make a sum of approximately $250 in profits. Freshmen Conor Siegel stated that “It was a great fundraising opportunity and it turned out to be very successful.”

By: Brianna Mir
According to the health section within the Times Herald Record, a viral disease that was said to be diminished within the country-regionplaceUS since the year 2000 is on the verge of a massive outbreak. The measles tally between the 1st of January and the 25th of April was at its highest count of 64 in the last 6 years. Although 64 seems like a small number compared to most other numbers in this world, it is quite significant. Only a mere two cases could mean disaster, and the fact that most people are choosing not to get vaccinated doesn't help. The more people who chose to shun the vaccination, the more cases
are likely. Since many doctors, nurses, and parents are no longer acquainted with measles, keeping measles under control could be problematic. The vaccine is 99% effective and many parents are choosing for their children to go without the protection of the vaccination. Measles is spread when a person who is infected by the diseases sneezes or coughs and spreads the hazardous germs into the air for others to receive. Out of the 50 states that make up the U.S, a mere 9 have seen cases. Although 9 out of 50 isn't much, with as much traveling that happens within the placecountry-regionUnited States and summer season arriving, the chances of spreading measles are greatly increased. StateIllinois, StateWisconsin, StateArizona, StateMichigan, and placeStateNew York are a few of which have seen cases.
The best thing to do now would be to wash your hands before eating or touching your face. This could avoid contracting the disease form the open air. Avoiding those who seem sick or ill, especially if they do have the measles, would also be a good idea in order to keep your self safe. However, the number one thing that would certainly aid in staying healthy would be to get the vaccine! 99% effectiveness is a big number and one that you can certainly rely on.

At this club, meeting members brainstormed ideas for the first Liberty Interact community service project. It's not to late to get involved if you wish to participate in Interact. placeCityLiberty Varsity Track Season
By: Tricia Gerwer
The Liberty Varsity Boys Track team is off to an amazing start for the 2008 school year. With many new guys running for CityLiberty, placeCityLiberty can have more people in more events. The new team is helping placeCityLiberty score for the division championship. The boys track team beat Eldred, placePlaceNameChester PlaceTypeAcademy, Livingston Manor, and Burke Catholic in non-league meets. The meet that really counted though was the meet against Sullivan West on April 24th. The meet ended with a league win by one point, 71 to 70. Sullivan West beat Tri-Valley with the same score of 71 to 70. Tri-Valley is also a school in placeCityLiberty's division. The Boys Track team destroyed Fallsburg's team on April 30th. The meet ended with a score of 129 to 10. The Boys Track team secured the Division IV title on May 8th with a win over Tri-Valley. The team was in a dual meet against Tri-Valley and Ellenville. They may not have dominated over Ellenville, but they beat Tri-Valley with a score of 75 to 66.
The Liberty Varsity Girls Track team is doing just as well. The girls' team may be smaller than the boys' team, but they are just as good. The girls have conquered placePlaceNameChester PlaceTypeAcademy, Livingston Manor, Fallsburg, and Burke Catholic. The girls have a team of 16 people and they killed Burke Catholic when they had a team of almost 40 girls. In track, most of the time it is won by numbers in the Liberty-Burke Catholic meet that didn't happen. That's a lot of skill for 16 girls!
Both the girls and guys are going into the championship part of the track season. Hopefully the girls and guys continue their winning ways and succeed in the championships. All the luck to both teams in the upcoming championships!
