Honors Breakfast
By: Brianna Mir
Work hard, play harder! That's the motto of many students, and it's plain to see that it paid off for some. LHS's freshmen and sophomore achievers attended a bagel breakfast during the first semester and were awarded for making honor roll for the first quarter.
Many freshmen showed their true colors by excelling in their classes, with 36 who achieved high honor roll and 29 who made honor roll for a total of 65 freshmen who proved that they have what it takes to make it through high school. LHS also had 25 sophomores make high honor roll and 23 make honor roll for the first quarter.
Also during the first semester, the juniors and seniors were honored at their own bagel breakfast. The juniors proved they worked hard the first quarter with 35 making high honor roll and 24 making honor roll. Finally, our LHS seniors proved they really are the school's top dogs, with an impressive 56 achieving high honor roll and 35 achieving honor roll!
In total, 263 placePlaceNameLiberty PlaceTypeHigh School students were honored this November, and started off the 2007-2008 school in a positive way. Congratulations to all students for excelling the first quarter! Keep up the fantastic work!
Saw 4
By: Asia Folsom
Horror films are all the same nowadays; they all have the same plot, beginning, and ending. But the Saw series has taken the horror film world by storm. Never before have there been movies as graphic and twisted as Saw.
In the movies, the characters are forced to kill themselves. When they cross main character Jigsaw's path, they don't have a choice between life or death, only between a quick death or a slow, painful death. Director by James Wan says he wanted “something even scarier then before” with his movies and I do believe the he achieved everything that he was aiming for.
The Saw film series was a huge success, grossing over $102,917,772 million worldwide (and that's only Saw 1). Is seeing saw four really worth $8.50? Yes, it is. If you're sick and tired of the same old boring horror films and are seeking a new excitement for your craving of horror, the saw series is sure to satisfy you!!
Referral Free Students Scream For Ice Cream
By: Sabrina Mastrogiovanni
Well, maybe we didn't scream, but boy, were we excited.
Students entered the cafeteria one December day and were rewarded with the delicious frozen treat, but there was a catch. Students were required to be referral free for the entire first marking period. If the student qualified they were able to choose either cotton candy, chocolate chip, vanilla, or moose tracks ice cream. Then, they were able to choose a delectable topping of cool whip, rainbow/chocolate sprinkles, cherries, chocolate syrup - or even a combination of all 5!
The only thing left to say is CONGRATULATIONS to all referral-free students, but a little enlightenment can't hurt. Here are a few cool ice cream facts:
The most popular ice cream is (believe it or not) Vanilla, followed by (you've guessed it!) Chocolate.
The placecountry-regionUnited States consumes the most ice cream
There is an ice cream flavor called “Play-Doh.” It's bright yellow, in case you were wondering.
The first ice cream parlor was open in the greatest city in the world, NYC, in 1776.
Underlying drug Addictions
By: Tricia Gerwer
Earlier this year, four girls at placePlaceNameLiberty PlaceTypeHigh School took a prescription drug called Topamax. All four students were taken to placePlaceNameCatskill PlaceNameRegional PlaceNameMedical PlaceTypeCenter in Harris by the end of the day. Students have been punished according to the placePlaceNameLiberty PlaceNameCentral PlaceTypeSchool handbook. Topamax is a anti-epileptic prescription drug used to prevent migraines in adults and to prevent seizures in children. placePlaceNameLiberty PlaceTypeHigh School has been educating the students on how prescription drugs can be dangerous to their health if not taken correctly. The faculty at placePlaceNameLiberty PlaceTypeHigh School helped as much as they could to ensure the safety of all Liberty Students.
Pringle Pringle
By: Gauri Samant
This year, the Physics classes have been assigned the famous “Pringle Project” by Mrs. Nolan. The objective of the project is to mail a single Pringle's potato chip (any flavor) to Mrs. Nolan's address on January 16th. The chip must be delivered first class by the U.S. Postal Service and must use no more than two ounces of postage. The chip must arrive unbroken, crispy, and flavorful. The package exterior must incorporate a design that will encourage crispiness (the chip must audibly snap 10.0 cm from Mrs. Nolan's ear), flavor (taste determined by Mrs. Nolan), effective marketing design (determined by committee selected by Mrs. Nolan) and timeliness (when the chip arrives to Mrs. Nolan's P.O. Box.) This project will account for a test grade in Mrs Nolan's class. Good luck to all the Physics students, this task is much harder than it appears!
Myspace
By: placeAsia Folsom
An interactive community to meet up with old friends, make new ones, and maybe even find a new spouse where the main intentions when myspace was made. But now it has tuned into something completely different. Girls have been getting kidnapped, running away and the worse of all killed. But is that Tom's fault, or the parents of the kids fault. Many people are shouting ban myspace, end the site, but is that really fair to those who actually use the site for what it is worth, But even so maybe the site should be taken down if 16 year old girls are running half away across the country to meet their “internet love” Do you punish all for other people's mistakes, or keep the site up and with that the chance of one more mother having to lye their little girl to rest!

Running with Scissors
By: Ariana Burd
Running With Scissors, By Augusten Burroughs is the personal memoir of the author himself growing up with a dysfunctional, mentally ill mother who was treated by a dysfunctional psychiatrist who could be considered mentally ill himself. When his mother feels that she cannot care for Augusten by herself, she decides to send him to live with the psychiatrist, Dr. Finch, who eagerly opens up his crazy home to Augusten. Dr. Finch has two children; Hope who is in her late twenties and Natalie who is a teenager about Augusten's age. Dr. Finch also has a wife whom Augusten finds to be the typical brownie- making mother he never had. The entire Finch family, including Dr. Finch's wife Agnes, is far from typical. Augusten describes his unusual and sometimes just plain insane childhood in an extremely candid, open and honest manner.
Running With Scissors, is very interesting to read and can make a person understand what really goes on behind closed doors of regular everyday people. This memoir is for the reader who doesn't feel uncomfortable with reading about someone's private life in a very open, but sophisticated manner. “Running With Scissors” was also made into a movie. The film, however did not receive the same critical acclaim as the book did. This is probably true because the film did not give you the personal connection to the feelings and emotions of the characters, especially Augusten, as the book did.

Whats been going on here?
By: Brianna Mir
Lately there's been something going on. What you ask? Well, it has to do with the weather and how crazy it's been lately. On the week of January 1st the weather was freezing cold, below average, and with highs of 130. However, in the week of January 7th, we've received temperatures as high as 630! What's going on?!?!?! The ski teams have been enjoying the cold weather but now they're sulking over the warm temperatures. Such freezing temperatures made the slopes icy and all the more slippery, making faster and all the more enjoyable skiing. However, now that the heat has set in, and all the snow and ice are melting, the ski team couldn't be sadder. With no snow means no skiing. However, many others are benefiting from this weather as well. Now is a great time to go on walks, jogs, and visit friends and family while there's no ice or snow on the roads. So, a message to all, we hope you enjoyed the weather while it lasted!
