Boogeyman Preview
By: Zac Shavrick
Boogeyman is another upcoming horror movie in an already crowded genre. The boogeyman is preparing to compete with such movies as The Ring and deliver where such movies as Saw and The grudge, fell short.
The Boogeyman has already launched an over zealous add campaign on our senses, which has gotten itself a spot on nearly every free moment in primetime television. The Bogey Man uses the cliché horror movie advertising, with an ominous voice and clips of people screaming.
The Boogeyman uses an all too popular trend of little kids in horror movies, dating back to such films as the Children of the Corn series and Honey I Shrunk the Kids. The movie is based on the creepy notion that was had by people predisposed to creepy notions, that there was a figure underneath the better ready to jump out and cause them ill tidings, very ill tidings.
Boogeyman boasts a lackluster list of B-List and No-Name actors including such unidentifiable's as Barry Watson, Emily Deschanel, Skye McCole Bartusiak of which your lucky to recognize one. The Director is Stephen Kay, who is attempting to breach the gates of Wes
“I plan on seeing Boogeyman, the previews seemed,” says Brandon Huebsch an eager fan, who plans on seeing the movie opening day. Lets just hope this starry eyed student isn't let down by another over-advertised bomb of a block buster, opening February 4th.
Kanye West's The College Dropout
by Danielle R. Hinton
The rap lyrics and music of Kanye West in his debut album “The College Dropout” is more than a flow of words that just happen to rhyme. It is an entire collection of lyrics that speak to the young minds of today's world, no matter what color.
West speaks about his life, trials and tribulations through this 21-track album. With appearances by Jamie Foxx, Twitsta, and Jay-Z the album speaks clearly of his views on his belief in God, his family, how he overcame his worst moments, and how he tries to change the rap and hip-hop music industry world for the better.
Kanye West is a sophomore college drop out from Chicago, Illinois. He gave up school to pursuit his dream in music and didn't care who liked it or not. He then moved on and made big moves for his career, but sadly was in a car accident, which left his left eye injured and he had to have metal plate placed in this jaw. But this did not stop West for going for his dream. He expresses his struggle in many of his songs.
“To the hustlers, killers, murders, drug dealers and even the strippers, Jesus walks with them.” This line comes from one of West's overall best and most profound songs which was recently turned into a music video entitled, “Jesus Walks.” This song expresses how he needed the Lord Jesus Christ in his life to move on and reach his dream, overcome his many obstacles and how He walks with every person on Earth no matter how “evil” or “sinful” they may be. The song swept the people of the 2004 BET Music Awards as he performed onstage with an entourage of an astonishing choir.
When listened to closely the entire album can clear up your views on life itself. Many have said that Kanye West is the new up and coming Tupac Shakuar; my opinion, he has a very long to go before he can compete with legends. However, with his new platinum award winning debut album in hand, who knows how far this young musician can go.
Moulin Rouge Again and Again
by Diana Rivera
Why watch a movie a thousand times? Is it because of the music or the theme/story? Is it because of the actors and actresses? People have many reasons for having a favorite movie. Mine is “Moulin Rouge.” It is a movie on romance full of action and drama. It's one of my favorites for these reasons, but the most important reason why this movie is my favorite is because of the music, and also because I'm a hopeless romantic. This is a more of a musical rather than a movie. I'm the type of person that is into music and theatre. If you are one of these people then I recommend that you see this movie.
“Moulin Rouge” is about two men who fall in love with a courtesan named Satine, whose role in the Moulin Rouge is to make men believe that she loves them. She is called the sparkling diamond of the Moulin Rouge. She is a woman who was brought up with the idea of love being a bad thing that it would just leave her in the streets. A man who is known as the penniless writer believes the total opposite, he believes in the bohemian belief of beauty, truth and love. There is another man who is called the Duke. He is also in love with the woman. He believes that money will win her over.
This is a great movie for hopeless romantics everywhere. Get out there and watch this movie, you will not be disappointed.
There's Nothing Shady About These Woods
by Jennifer Cohen
The best part of life is that you are able to fix it, most of the time. Having another person on your side continuously will of course make it better. Without love and support, you are more likely to be distraught.
In the newly released motion picture, The Woodsman, Kevin Bacon performs at his best when acting as a child molester. Nicole Kassell, director and screenwriter, has made a smashing feature film. She vividly captured many aspects of the storyline that flourished throughout the entire movie.
There are plenty of films where molesters are shown as an action aspect of molesting in the film. This movie focused on more of the thought process of the molesters themselves. Bacon plays a very untraditional role that puts most of the attention on his determination and struggle to over come his past. This movie played up more of the lives of adults, which increased the overall dramatic feel of the film. While Bacon reveals some details about the nature of his prey, the exact picture is never fully painted. This way of directing leads to a larger use of imagination by the viewer. Viewers will want to know the complete story, so their attention is directed only on the movie.
With an exceptional cast that poured their heart and soul into this movie, it shined with a deep understanding for drama. Kevin Bacon should be commended for taking on such a mentally and emotionally demanding role.
