As Director of Curriculum for the Liberty School District, my main focus is naturally academics. Sometimes we view academics as the whole purpose for attending school. While this is true, other elements including music, art, theater, technology and sports play integral roles in shaping a child’s future. This is accomplished through teamwork, building self-esteem and giving students responsibilities. These elements compliment the academic curriculum. Imagine a school without instruments playing, artwork being created, voices singing or technology being utilized – imagine an empty stage. The goal of getting every Liberty student to meet higher standards and graduate with a regents diploma demands commitment and resolve, as well as an unprecedented investment of time, energy, creativity and resources at the national, state and local levels.
