Two experienced educators will provide support to Liberty Elementary School as district leaders work to identify the best candidates to fill the recently vacated principal and assistant principal positions. Dr. Linda Widomski will serve as interim principal and Dave Philips will serve as a teacher facilitator during the transition to a new administrative team.
This summer, former elementary school leaders Scott Brown and Daniel Brown accepted jobs closer to their homes. A principal selection committee is now working to identify a candidate to recommend to the Liberty Board of Education by the end of September so the new elementary school principal can begin work by the end of October. In the interim, Dr. Widomski and Philips will work together to ensure a smooth start to the new school year for all students, faculty and staff.
Most recently, Dr. Widomski served as the interim director of Pupil Personnel Services in Tri-Valley, as an elementary principal in Tri-Valley and as an elementary principal in Sullivan West. She will begin serving full time as interim principal at Liberty Elementary School on Monday, Aug. 25.
"[Dr. Widomski] is familiar with many of the programs and initiatives we have undertaken, and will be able to smoothly step in and provide continuity while we conduct the search for a permanent replacement," wrote Superintendent of Schools Dr. William Silver in a letter sent home to parents and employees this week (PDF).
Dave Philips, who teaches at the elementary school, volunteered to serve as a teacher facilitator and assist in filling key responsibilities that typically fall to an assistant principal. In this role, he will provide valuable institutional knowledge.
Parents with questions are invited to contact the superintendent's office at (845) 292-6990.
