The Liberty High School Class of 2015 bid farewell at on Saturday, June 27, during a commencement ceremony at the Robert Van Slyke Gymnasium.
The graduation celebration was attended by hundreds of family, friends and teachers and culminated with the students turning the tassels on their caps, symbolizing their transformation from students to alumni.
Before their tassels were turned and caps tossed into the air, the graduates were celebrated and heard words of encouragement and lessons learned from several of their fellow classmates.
With Middle/High School Principal Jack Strassman acting as emcee, the speakers included salutatorian Cheyanne Holwell, valedictorian Kimberly Zuniga, Superintendent Dr. William Silver and Liberty Board of Education President Andrew Kavleski.
An already electric was supercharged when World War II veteran Edward Palmer, an octogenarian, was presented with an honorary diploma. Mr. Palmer, a Purple Heart recipient, who did not graduate high school because he joined the United States Armed Forces instead.
