Greater learning, a brighter future, less delinquency and more funds for schools – there are countless benefits to increased student attendance.

Liberty Elementary hopes to improve on-time attendance with a school wide competition that promises a reward to classrooms that have enough days of perfect attendance to spell out the phrase, “COME TO SCHOOL, ALL DAY - EVERYDAY”. Classes receive a letter after a full day of perfect attendance.

“Studies have shown a direct link between good attendance and a student’s success in school, college and work,” said Liberty Elementary Guidance Counselor Linda Krokus.

For every completed word, classes receive a reward of their choice, such as a pizza party, and also have their classroom photos displayed in the foyer of the lobby. Attendance awardees are also mentioned during the school’s daily announcements.

“As a way to promote good attendance we hope that all students will take this opportunity to come to school all day, every day,” Mrs. Krokus said. “We must teach our students that good attendance equals success in school, college and at work."
