Whoville has sprung off the pages of
How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and taken form as a model
village at Liberty Elementary School.
Dr. Seuss’s holiday classic was re-created by LES
kindergarteners, with each student turned into a “Who” and even
the Grinch, who can be found hiding out in Mount Crumpit.
Each kindergarten class read the story together, focusing on
characters, setting and plot – the three main parts of a story.
“The project gave the kids a chance to learn about story
structure, while also putting their creative sides to work,”
says Kindergarten Teacher Rachel Countryman. “It was a great way
to utilize a popular holiday story in an academic way, while
still making it a LOT of fun.”
Whoville is on display in the kindergarten wing of Liberty
Elementary School through the holidays.
