Elementary School new drop-off loop

Liberty Elementary School's new drop-off loop and sidewalks will allow parents to more easily and safely drop off students.

Construction continues as Liberty schools open as scheduled; Liberty Elementary traffic pattern changed

After a summer of major construction at both the Liberty Elementary School and Liberty High School, classes will begin on time, as scheduled.

Teachers returned to school on Wednesday, September 1, and classes will begin on Tuesday, September 7.

The district is in the midst of a $35.8 million capital project that began in August of 2009. The multi-faceted project took place at both the elementary and high schools and included numerous renovations as well as new construction.

"It's been a very busy summer," says Superintendent Michael B. Vanyo. "The progress that has been made over the summer is very impressive. On September 7th we will be prepared for students to return. There will still be construction at the elementary school, but we have met and coordinated with our project managers and the work will continue without being disruptive to instruction."

At the high school, improvements include a new library/media center at the front of the building, a new main office, five new state of the art science laboratories, boys and girls locker rooms have been completely renovated, an elevator has been added and the roof replaced. Asbestos abatement also took place through the course of construction.

Liberty Elementary School added eight new classrooms, a new cafeteria and kitchen, expanded playground, façade preservation, renovated offices and bathrooms, windows and roofing was replaced and a new drop off loop at the front of the building was added. Construction will be ongoing at the elementary school through the winter on a new foyer, entryway and administrative offices on the north side of the building.

A new traffic pattern at the elementary school has also been implemented. Access to the school will still take place at the Main Street entrance, however traffic will now move around the backside of the building and exit at School Street. Parents dropping students may do so at the new drop-off loop at the front of the building.

"We anticipate that some adjustments and fine tuning will be needed. However, the benefits of this project for our students and the community far outweigh the small inconveniences," states Vanyo. "It is our goal to provide the best environment possible for our students, and this project will provide that."
