After a successful first year of programming, the Liberty Boys and Girls Club is proud to announce the expansion of the popular after-school program.
Located in the Liberty Middle School, the Liberty chapter of the Boys and Girls Club began in February, 2010 and accommodated 45 fifth and sixth-graders. This fall, the program will be able to accommodate 75 children and will now include seventh-grade students.
The expansion was made possible with the support of the district and a grant from Liberty Properties, Inc.
Located in the Middle School Cafeteria, the program is held after school until 6 p.m. After an homework powerhour and snack, the program focuses on five core areas including: character and leadership development, health and life skills, the arts (fine, performing, crafts), education and career development, and sports and fitness.
In addition, the club offers community service projects, guest speakers and other activities in a structured environment.
“We are tremendously proud of our program at Liberty and excited to see it grow,” says Alexis Eggleton, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Orange and Sullivan Counties. “After school hours can be a dangerous time for kids, especially the age range that the Liberty program serves. We are proud to offer them a program that keeps them safe.”
