The Liberty Board of Education will hold the annual meeting and budget hearing on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 7 p.m. at the Liberty High School Auditorium. The hearing is open to the public, and gives the community the opportunity to review the proposed district budget prior to the budget vote.

The 2011-12 proposed budget was presented in three separate budget workshops in March and April, and culminated with the Board of Education formally approving the 2011-12 budget proposition at the April 12th meeting. The proposed $40,006,649 budget will be decided upon by Liberty voters at the annual budget vote on Tuesday, May 17th. To view the budget in its entirety, please click HERE.

In addition to the budget, voters will be asked to select three school board members as well as vote on the establishment of a capital reserve fund. The fund of up to $5 million would be set up over a ten year period and would only be funded from excess or extra revenues. No new taxes would be levied to fund the account. “With the unsettled fiscal environment in Albany, we don’t know if building aid will be affected in the future,” says Business Manager Lorine Lamerand. “Establishing a capital reserve fund now is the same as setting up a savings account for the future needs of the district. It’s just good fiscal planning.”

The budget vote will be held in the Liberty High School Gymnasium on Tuesday, May 17, from 12 noon – 9 p.m. Detailed information can be located HERE, or for other questions, please call Business Manager Lorine Lamerand at 845-292-6171.
