The Liberty Middle School 7th & 8th Grade Band and Jazz Ensemble
recently traveled to Albany to perform in the Empire State Plaza.
The groups were selected to perform in South Concourse Lobby of the
Empire State Plaza as part of the "Music in our Schools Month"
celebration sponsored by the New York State School Music Association
(NYSSMA).
According to Gary Siegel, Liberty Central School Director of Music
and the conductor of the band and jazz ensemble, the performing
groups from all over New York State applied to perform and the
Liberty ensembles are among approximately 50 groups that were
selected statewide to perform.
The concert program consisted of a variety of music performed by the
students. During their visit to Albany, the students met with
Senator John Bonacic and Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther who presented
the groups with Legislative Resolutions from the NYS Assembly and
Senate commending the LCS music program.
After the concert, the students and chaperones toured the New York
State Capitol and the New York State Museum. "This is a wonderful
musical, educational and social experience for the students," says
Siegel. "We are so proud to offer this opportunity to the students.
It will be something they will remember for the rest of their
lives."
