Working on a problem at the 2010 Family Math Night.
The LES Family Math Night for second and third-graders
and their parents/guardians will be held on Tuesday, March 29 in the
Liberty Elementary School cafeteria. Registration will begin at 6:30
p.m. and the games and activities will be held from 6:45 p.m. – 8
p.m. All students attending must be accompanied by a parent or
guardian.
The school-sponsored event serves two main purposes: to
have fun while learning/doing math and to familiarize students and
parents/guardians with the state’s third-grade math assessments.
The evening features numerous stations where families
can play card, dice and board games, bingo and take part in other
math-related activities. Parents/guardians will also have an
opportunity to look at sample math assessment questions and get an
idea of what is in store for their children.
“An evening like Family Math Night allows our parents
to learn strategies that can help them help their kids learn and
have fun at the same time,” explains fourth-grade teacher Kathleen
McCann-Smith. “It can be as simple as playing a card game. With
reinforcement and practice, students and parents can both become
less apprehensive about math.”
In addition to games and activities, refreshments and prizes will be provided, and perhaps even a visit from LES’s very own Math Wizard. For more information, please contact the elementary school at 845-292-5400.
